What is happening in the world of home decor for the 2013-14 season?

Color-  Metallic colors continue to be big, everywhere.  Dark colors paired with bright golds and silvers  in ceramics, tabletop pieces and vases were very popular.  Colors so pretty, I had to reach out to touch them for a closer look.  Great textures and depth of color.

This Fall, one of the new Botanistix orchid support stakes will be a metallic gourd.  Its very sophisticated and at the same time, natural looking.  I think it will be a great look next to your orchid. Possibly with a tiny little bug peeking out of one of the crevices of the metallic gourd, who knows?  This "natural" theme continued in other ways.

Always wanting to stay on top of the decor trends, I saw so much taxidermy in all forms. Including the  formerly alive (bodies, heads, antlers of moose, black bear, deer..) and the never alive- resins and ceramics (bodies, heads, antlers.)  At first I was amused but by day three, I really became a fan of the artificial varieties.  In some room settings, it was the perfect 3 dimensional addition to a wall full of boring but beautiful flat paintings, adding drama and height.  Interestingly, it doesn't say 'Western' especially in a wall grouping. However, this big guy below totally says Western!

Houzz.com is featuring a grouping of 9 ghost (white) antlers as a whimsical way to hang clothes in a mudroom- great looking http://www.houzz.com/mudroom-ghost-antlers (check it out)  Antlers of all kinds were accessories on book cases and yes, they looked great whether in metals, ceramic or woods.  Pottery Barn,  Z gallery, West Elm and even Hobby Lobby, they all have a variety for you to see if this design trend works to spruce up your space.
